Straw Man in Chief

Historian Victor Davis Hansen likens President Obama to the Wizard of Oz, a fraud behind a curtain in one of the most recent of his anti-Obama columns. He claims the "messianic spell" has been broken. After a round of shrill accusations like:

no president in 78 years has done more to incite class resentment, envy, and polarization—and that fact is as shocking as the sun rising in the morning...

he complains of others criticizing former presidents with the line "(a)nd are not we all tired of such empty superlatives?"

CNBC's list of America's scariest jobs should have included President of the United States. The job was fatal for many, and you've got nut jobs all over the world claiming you're the antichrist, possessed or an Islamo-communist racist.

Better Living Through Corprotocracy

George Will recently offered a column about "The Democratic Vision of Big Brother." He, like the teabaggers, is concerned about the totalitarian nature of Obamacare and fascistic banning of the incandescent light bulb scheduled to occur in a few years.

According to freedom loving Glenn Beck conservatives, the Constitution has been shredded and a Big Kenyan Racist Brother is trampling over the freedoms of full blooded Americans. Right thinking Americans want a WHITE Big Brother building electrified fences, invading oil rich countries in the name of peace, enhancing interrogations, establishing military tribunals, and protecting the Homeland from undesirable elements.

There will be no curiosity, no enjoyment of the process of life. All competing pleasures will be destroyed. But always— do not forget this, Winston— always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. A USA Today article from last spring points out that tax bills in 2009 were the lowest since 1950. "Amid complaints about high taxes and calls for a smaller government, Americans paid their lowest level of taxes last year since Harry Truman's presidency, a USA TODAY analysis of federal data found."

Hold your nose and take your Medicine

I know many of you are disappointed by the health care debacle. What was supposed to be a government take over of health care and second step towards socialism and world government is now a watered down version of that glorious vision. Still, we must support our Kenyan president and trust that he knows best. True, the bill does not fund baby killing, but it still includes rationing and death panels. Just you wait until next year grandma, you'll get yours! CALL YOUR CONGRESSPERSON AND DEMAND HE/SHE/HIR VOTE TO PASS THE BASTARDIZED VERSION OF THE HEALTH BILL NOW!!!

Sticker Shock

The Chicago Tribune had a sad article about a student who was beaten to death. He received 5 minutes of the highest level of emergency care, but could not be revived. The undiscounted 'rack rate' the hospital charged for the 5 minutes of care: $29,186.50.

Relapolitik as Usual

I got an email from info@barackobama.com a couple of weeks ago. It began:
Last year, millions of Americans came together for a great purpose.

What followed was an appeal for a donation to support the president's health care proposals...
... To prevail, we must once more build a coast-to-coast operation ready to knock on doors, deploy volunteers, get out the facts, and show the world how real change happens in America.

President Barack Obama

So what real change has happened? On the plus side we have a new female Supreme Court nominee that is accused of racism by frightened Republicans. There is a new tone in our foreign policy and rhetoric about science, and perhaps a little more openness in government, although the ACLU is now going after the Obama administation on issue like torture, due process and freedom of information.

The stimulis plan might be a plus, if the money isn't wasted on corruption or incompetence. Other than that, what I see is Bush Lite. Same Secretary of Defense, similar policies in the Middle East, similar cozy relationship with Wall Street, and NO SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE on the table.

I'm still relieved that Obama won and the Democrats at last have 60 votes in the Senate, but have been underwhelmed so far. Who knows, maybe in 2012 we'll have a 4 party race for the Presidency.
