Scenes from an Elitist Upbringing

I've read too many comments from internet conservatives complaining about elitist Barack Obama never having worked a day in his life and owing his success to affirmative action. Barry Obama had more than a glimpse of real poverty and elitism when he lived in Indonesia. By fifth grade, young Barack Obama probably knew as much or more about the "real" world as the loudmouthed birthers and truthers who accuse him of being a pawn of the socialist Islamo fascist conspiracy.

My stepfather Lolo said, "Men take advantage of weakness in other men. They're just like countries in that way. The strong man takes the weak man's land. He makes the weak man work in his fields. If the weak man's woman is pretty, the strong man will take her. Which would you rather be? Better to be strong. If you can't be strong, be clever and make peace with someone who's strong. But always better to be strong yourself. Always.

My stepfather Lolo said, "Guilt is a luxury only foreigners can afford. Like saying whatever pops into your head." Mother didn't know what it was like to lose everything, to wake up and feel her belly eating itself. She didn't know how crowded and treacherous the path to security could be. He was right, of course. She was a foreigner, middle-class and white and protected by her heredity whether she wanted protection or not. She could always leave if things got too messy. That possibility negated anything she might say to Lolo; it was the unreachable barrier between them.

From September 2008

John McCain says he's about change too, and so I guess his whole angle is, "Watch out George Bush -- except for economic policy, health care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy and Karl Rove-style politics -- we're really going to shake things up in Washington."

That's not change. That's just calling something the same thing something different. You know you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. You know you can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change, it's still going to stink after eight years. We've had enough of the same old thing.

There Goes the Sun...

Fox News: call your doctor. Because the erection you currently have is going to last longer than four hours.
—Jon Stewart on the Solyndra Scandal
Ugh. I guess this means we'll be going back to the old way of funding solar by borrowing money from the Chinese to buy their manufactured goods and letting them invest in new technology.

Off and Running

There are now 196 who have filed a Statement of Candidacy with the Federal Election Commission to register as a 2012 presidential candidate. The candidates must have either:

  • received contributions aggregating in excess of $5,000 or made expenditures aggregating in excess of $5,000; or
  • given consent to another person to receive contributions or make expenditures on behalf of him or herself and that person has received contributions aggregating in excess of $5,000 or made expenditures aggregating in excess of $5,000 (11 CFR 100.3(a)).

  • President Obama is facing Democratic primary challenges from over 25 candidates who have filed with the FEC. I couldn't find websites for all of the candidates, but here are links to some of those who did have them:

Anti-abortion activist Randall Terry, who told ABC news "I want to pummel Obama. I despise this presidency. He is the arch child killer of the Western Hemisphere, so I'm going to go head-to-head with him."

Harry Braun is advocating direct democracy that circumvents congress, and switching to a solar-hydrogen based economy.

Blogger Tiffany Briscoe understanding that "a left-wing economy is a theory of the past, similar to Mercantilism and Socialism."

Leah Lax who would end Obamacare, the IRS, big government, and the "open door policy" of immigration.

Willie Carter, a Texan who would take "the God fearing approach" and, along with a strong military and restoring virtue to government, would also add "firm reliance upon Divine Protection."

Jeff Boss, whose website has the banner:
    JEFF BOSS WITNESSED THE NSA

    ARRANGE THE 911 ATTACK

Mike Moloney, has a progressive message:

Bring the Troops Home Now and take care of social justice and financial sanity at home!

Deonia Neveu, an ordinary citizen, who points out that
“You don’t always have to have experience to be great.”

John Sawyer, another conservative running as a Democrat, has the slogan "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. THROW THEM ALL OUT."

On the Republican side there are over 90 candidates. My favorite is Jonathon Albert "The Impaler" Sharkey, a professional wrestler who has stated that President Obama "is even worse than Bush, and I never thought anyone could be worse than Bush. He has no idea how to run a country, nor should he be running a country." Sharkey would ban both abortion and the teaching of evolution in schools. He has run both as a Republican and on the ticket of his own Vampires, Witches, and Pagans Party.

    The Federator

Rick Perry disapproves of Republican and Bush appointee Ben Bernanke trying to stimulate the economy anytime before election day. Apparently trying to ease the recession is treasonous as long as Obama is president.
